What can I learn about where I live
With my new digital ears?
I think about asking people if I can record
Their weed eating, watering, or door closing for posterity.
Okay for podcasting.
Instead I just record what I can hear
Without intruding into driveways.
I have a hard time finding interesting sounds.
I stand around near a usually barking dog,
But can’t make myself antagonize him.
I wonder where the jump rope girls are today.
A man gives me a funny look while
I am trying to record the thumping sound his parked car is making.
So I put the recorder to my ear and pretend it is a cell phone.
In the end it is the sound of my feet walking
That I like best anyway.
